Syntax

restart [-r <operating system> | -s | -q | -b | -h]

Options

-f
Force processes to terminate

-r <operating system>
Restart to the specified operating system

-s
Shut down

-q
Enable the default OS and quit immediately

-b
Go in stand-by mode

-h
Go in hibernate mode

Example

restart -r Windows XP

Note

The operating system name is case sensitive, so you have to write it exactly as it appears on the boot menu.

Restart to other OS using a link

Postby Prestone » Sat Mar 21, 2009 5:58 am

Hi

I want to know if it is possible to restart to an other OS, on the same HDD, different partition, just by using a link, not the program Restart. It may be very powerfull, but I do not want to run all the time programs that I will just use once. I have "XP 32" and "XP 64" as typed in my Boot.ini

I have tried the syntax you give and it doesn't work.

Thanks

You can create a shortcut to the RESTART.EXE program (usually C:\Program Files\Restart\Restart.exe) and pass the parameter -r followed by the BOOT.INI entry name.

No quotes are needed if there are spaces in the name, but make sure it is exactly as it appears on the boot menu because it's case sensitive.

I want to shutdown the 2nd OS and setting the boot on the 1st OS for the next time.

I tryed the link: ""L:\Program Files (x86)\Restart\Restart.exe" -s XP 32"
"L" is the drive letter for XP 64 and "C" for XP 32

the same link but with an "R" instead of the "S" is working well so why the "R" doesn't?

Doesn't work...why...WHY???

I tryed to point the link to the XP 32 Restart.exe installation and it doesn't work no more.

Thanks

With the current version you can specify the name only with the -r option. I will consider your request for the next version of Restart.
